PARENT ASSISTANCE AND REVIEW CHECKLIST
Parents can assist in the driver education learning process by reviewing with the new driver the following:

Get in the habit of checking all tires and looking under the car for possible
leaks.
2. Safe driving requires locking alt doors and making sure all passengers are
wearing their safety belt.
3. Show the young driver proper mirror adjustment both inside and out.
4. Windows should always be clean.
5. Read and understand the meaning of all road signs and markings.
6. Scan ahead and always know what is in your immediate path. Be prepared!
7. Check all intersections. 33% of all traffic deaths occur at intersections.
8. Get in the habit of checking your rear view mirror every 10-12 seconds.
9. Review instrument panel, location of controls and their function.
10. Proper turning procedures, always turn into the proper driving lane.
11. Review traffic signals meaning and purposes, both horizontal and vertical
lights.
12. Parking on hills with and without a curb.
13. Review parallel, perpendicular and diagonal parking.
14. Proper hand position on steering wheel.
15. Proper starting and stopping procedures, smooth and even starts and stops.
16. Review blind spots and the no zone.
17. Proper eye movement when driving.
18. Proper speed control.
19. Explain purpose of reverse lanes.
20. Review controlled, uncontrolled and partially controlled intersections.
21. Review types of streets--2 way, 1 way.
